Marking Your Milestones
Life Story Writing Classes

Your life stories…two pages at a time

Are you wanting to write about your life but don’t know where to start?

Do you desire to create a collection of meaningful life stories to share with family and friends?

Are you ready to explore and process your life events?

Do you think you’re a bad writer or you just don’t like writing?

Does your life seem too busy to add something else?

Marking Your Milestones live, on-line life story writing classes can help with all that.

Marking Your Milestones life story writing classes use the Guided AutoBiography method of memoir writing, or GAB for short.

GAB is a semi-structured way to write about our lives. It uses a series of life themes – like major branching points in life, the role of money, and careers – to stir memories and present them as precious threads in the tapestry of our lives.

At each weekly class session, you will be given a theme to write about. Also, at each session you are presented with creative exercises to get memories flowing and to add richness to your stories.

Plus, you will share a recent story with the other class participants and get gentle feedback, too. Great joy and satisfaction comes from sharing stories with others, and nobody will be taking a virtual red pen to your work. This isn’t school!

Writing your own life stories is fun and satisfying because you’re writing about things you want to write about, and the stories are ones you know. You don’t have to know all the dates for when things happened either. If needed, a story can be placed during a time period, like elementary school or college, without stating the exact year or date.

Nearly everyone who participates in GAB finds the writing surprisingly easy, and nearly everyone also discovers they aren’t the bad writers they thought they were.

Marking Your Milestones classes meet once a week for 5 weeks. Each session is about two hours long and takes place on Zoom. The Zoom platform is free to class participants, and it works similarly to Skype. If you’re not familiar with Zoom, you and I can meet before the first class session to take care of that.

Your at-home writing time will vary, but a few hours each week is a reasonable amount of time to allow.

At the end of the class, you’ll have written 5 individual stories about your life. You might even have more since each theme will bring more than one story to mind, and you may want to write those remembrances, too.

Writing life stories using GAB is easy and fun, and with the themes provided you’ll discover a treasure trove of stories you want to write and share with others or use for personal life review. Plus, the minimal time commitment brings big results.
