Favorite Photo was last week’s prompt from 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks for 2025. I couldn’t pick just one. So here are three of my newest favorite photos that came from a collection shared with me by my cousin, B.
Grandma (Florrie THOMAS MARTIN 1894-1979) and Aunt Millie (Miriam “Millie” MARTIN ATKINS 1926-1994) in August 1947 at Sawmill Creek according to the back of the photo, probably Sawmill Creek Park in Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Millie looks annoyed at her mother. Grandma looks genuinely amused. I don’t know what was up, but it’s a fun photo.
Uncle Bobby (Robert A. MARTIN (1928-2006), and Aunt Dot (Dorothy ROBEY MARTIN 1930-2018) taken in 1947. Bobby was 19, and Dot was 17. He looks so handsome in his uniform, and I love how she is making eyes at him. They wouldn’t be married for a few more years after this photo was taken. I asked Aunt Dot once what attracted to her to Uncle Bobby…his smile, his personality, something else? She chuckled and said she thought it was the uniform and his dark, curly hair.
Group photo from late 1955 or early 1956. Taken at Gladys and Charlie’s house, my parents. I love Grandma’s and Aunt Ruby’s smiles, and my mom’s look of love towards my older sister who she is holding. Except for J. and M., all of these people have passed. Oh, how I miss them.
