Where I’ve been for the past month

Share

I’ve meant to blog, and I’ve wanted to blog, but technology has not been my friend. For the past month I’ve been in the weeds of tech problems: the woes of website maintenance, Windows 10, and my wired internet connection.

First, I set out to do website updates. I wanted them done before I updated to Windows 10.  Alas, there was a problem with my website’s theme. Enter my webmaster. She fixed the theme problem, but I did the rest of the updates. Finally my website is functional and all the updates are done including my About page, a new free e-book for subscribing, and a page about my live, on-line life story writing workshops, Marking Your Milestones. I provided links so you can take a look.

Second, I updated to Windows 10. Win10 is a pain. It slowed down my 8-year old computer to a crawl. The load time was insane, and the lag made me want to toss the computer out the window. Sometimes my internet connection just stopped for minutes at a time. All the computers in the house are hard-wired and the others weren’t having internet problems, so we knew it was my computer and we did some troubleshooting.

Third, by process of elimination we determined that the internet switch attached to my computer needed to be replaced. Amazon to the rescue and a new switch was installed. It seems to be a coincidence that the Win10 update and the internet connection problem happened about the same time, but who really knows.

And now…

I’m still having occasional internet connection drop-offs and problems with load time and lag. I need more RAM but getting a new computer makes more sense, and that’s in the works.

I’m back to blogging nearly weekly. And I’m so glad about that! I’ve missed it.

And the 5-week pilot session of my live, on-line life story writing workshops starts in March. This pilot session is at a discounted price. Check it out here. I’d love to have you in the workshop. There’s a contact block on the workshop information page. Email me from there if you have any questions about the workshop.

I know that pain from the hand holding high in the grass blades! Gotta keep dealing thru the struggles of tech! I hear 5G is now with us! Awake! It has all changed again and at a faster pace! Peace along the blog!

No 5G here yet, thank goodness. I have enough to deal with already!

Hey Nan…better ‘you’ then me…sounds uncaring, but just being realistic—I could not have handle it at all. Yes Win10 is a monster~~ still trying to figure out its worth. You have been fortunate in having such an advantage in having been around Jim for so many years, and by having Lara as ‘backup’…by having many years of problem solving…you weren’t totally left in the dark-ages, as many of the ‘fixes’ of yester-year are lost to technology and ‘auto-mation’.
Any way I’m glad you have gotten a handle on it, and are back in swing.
We are just plodding along and ENJOYING it~!
Thanks for the update and explanation—we are ALL nodding our heads in understanding.
Stay well, be safe~~with Love nd Hugs

You are not uncaring at all! This update was a bear, and I know many people who still haven’t done it. I was blessed with having my own personal tech support, wasn’t I. Sure do miss him. The girls and Alex do pretty well with tech support, though. And there’s always YouTube. There seems to be a video for everything there. Love and hugs to you, too.
